Introductory   (free with Membership) 

All students are expected to take the Introductory Course, which comprises four two-hour sessions covering some basic information on computers, Word Processing, demonstrations of the E-mail program Outlook Express, the Internet program Internet Explorer, a prepared Spreadsheet and Database. 

 Introductory E-mail  ($15.00)

Using Outlook Express in Windows XP and Windows Mail in Windows Vista- Two 2-hour sessions – This Course is available to students who have completed the Introductory Course.  The Course covers the preparation and sending of E-mails, replying to and forwarding messages, use of the Address Book, sending copies of messages, sending, opening and saving an attachment, and a brief discussion on E-mail viruses.   

         Using Windows Live Mail with the Windows 7 Operating System - Two 2-hour sessions - This Course is available to students who
         have completed the Introductory Course.  The Course covers the preparation and sending of E-mails, replying to and forwarding messages, use
         of the Address Book, sending copies of messages, sending, opening and saving an attachment, and a brief discussion on E-mail viruses. 

 Keyboard Skills  ($20.00)

Three 2 hour sessions – This course is recommended for those who are unfamiliar with the keyboard layout, a basic understanding of which is helpful when attending other Courses. 

Irfanview ($15.00) 

Two 2-hour sessions ─ A very simple and easy-to-use program for opening, cropping and resizing photos.  It is a free download and is compatible with all Microsoft operating systems

 Basic Word Processing  ($30.00) 
Four 2-hour sessions – covers document layout, editing and copying text into other documents, the use of different styles of font, print sizes and
colours.    Other skills taught in this Course are essential for Advanced Courses.

 Basic Microsoft Word 2007/2010 - Four 2-hours sessions - covers the basics of Word 2007, understanding the document window layout and learning how to use the new Ribbon to access menus, tools and other functions.  Use editing and formatting functions and copy text into other documents.  Use different styles of font, font point sizes and colours.  Insert Clip Art, Word Art and pictures. 

Advanced Microsoft Word 2007 / 2010 - Four 2-hours sessions - covers the advanced features of Word 2007 or 2010.  For those students who have completed the Basic Word 2007 course and wish to learn more..
Subjects covered include
Customizing Word ; Using Find and Replace ;Text Highlights and Text Colour ; Drop Caps ; Indents ; Pagination;  Headers and Footers; Templates ; Insert Text box ;  Insert and format pictures.  Applying frames to pictures ; Using Tables and Columns.

 Getting Started with Windows 7 This two week Course is an introduction to the Windows 7 operating system. Particularly useful for those with a new computer or moving from Windows XP or Vista. Students will discover how to use many of the new and very useful features of Windows 7 which make the computer easier and more enjoyable to use.

File Management   ($30.00)

 Four 2-hour sessions - shows how data created by a computer user is stored and retrieved, by setting up files and folders which can then be moved and copied to more than one location on the computer. 

 Computer Maintenance  ($15.00) 

Two 2-hour sessions – covers the Back-up of Data, E-mail Address Book and Internet Explorer Favourites,  Overview of anti-Virus, anti-Spy and anti-Addware programs, Disk Clean-up, Defragging the Hard Drive, setting system for Automatic Updates, using System Restore, Safe Mode/Normal Mode, and the cleaning of Computer equipment.

 Desk-Top Publishing   ($30.00)

 Four 2-hour sessions – using Microsoft Publisher – covers Newsletters, Brochures, Notices, Calendars, Certificates, Greeting Cards and Letterheads.

 Genealogy  ($50.00)

Eight 2-hour sessions – using Legacy 7 – a popular family history computer program – which makes it easy to store your genealogical research data and pictures.  The program, a copy of which is supplied on CD, is a free-ware program that can be licensed at any time and is updated on a regular basis. 

Internet  ($30.00)

 Four 2-hour sessions – with Broadband connection – using Internet Explorer or Firefox, which is one of several alternative browsers.   Learn how to use Google and download a video from YouTube.  

.Microsoft Excel  ($30.00) 

Four 2-hour sessions – this Course covers the basics of using Excel (part of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs).  Learn how to set up a Spreadsheet and Database and discover many other practical uses for this versatile program. 

Photoshop Elements 2  ($30.00

Four 2-hour sessions – an advanced Course in photo editing, which covers the main features of this popular program.  Learn how to use many of the tools available in Photoshop Elements 2 to enhance, repair and restore photos.

Two two hour sessions investigating some of the routines available on the Google web pages, such as searching images, Mapping, Google Earth

    Part Two    ($15.00)
Two two hour sessions  investigating some of the routines available on the Google web pages, such as Translation, Blogging and YouTube

 Picasa  ($30.00) 

Four 2-hour sessions – this Course covers many of the functions of Picasa3, which is a free photograph viewing and organizing program that creates thumbnails of pictures in the My Pictures folder, and new pictures or changes to pictures in the My Pictures folder will immediately appear in Picasa.  The program has easy-to-use basic photo editing functions to allow some image problems to be corrected, and has a powerful search function to help locate mislaid pictures.  Pictures can be e-mailed or printed and can be made into a gift CD with a self-starting slideshow.  A picture collage or poster can also be created and printed. 

Web Page  ($30.00)

 Four 2-hour sessions – for those interested in setting up a personal Web Page using Microsoft Front Page.   A website with three interactive pages is prepared by each student and these are uploaded to a host provider.
